REHABILITATION
At the de Bruin Dental Center, patients will receive a thorough evaluation of their overall
dental muscular health. Upon diagnosis, treatments plans will be evaluated for correcting
any TMD/TMJ problems.
A current technique employed by our center is called Transcutaenous Electrical Neural
Stimulation or TENS. This is also known as ultra-low frequency electrical muscle
stimulation. The process involves a small, battery-powered device, which delivers mild
electrical pulses to your mandibular muscles via neural pathways. This stimulus causes
small, involuntary contractions of the facial, and masticatory nerves. The resulting low
frequency stimulation provides pain relief for the muscular origins. "TENSing" the
muscles also works out the lactic acid and works in fresh blood, oxygen and nourishment
for the muscles. This results in relaxed muslces and nerve endings, which are a
foundation for successful dental treatment.
