WHAT IS NEUROMUSCULAR DENTISTRY, TMD & TMJ?

Neuromuscular Dentistry includes the muscles, nerves, and supporting structures of the mouth. It is effective in the treatment of TMD ((Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction). Neuromuscular dentistry goes beyond not only the hard tissues of the teeth, but also the soft tissues - muscles and nerves. It is the art and science of using the relaxed position of the muscles of the head and neck to place the jaw into an optimal physiologic position. It is also used in finding the optimal jaw position before restorative dentistry and greatly increases the longevity of restorations and natural dentition.

Neuromuscular Dentistry techniques have been tested and used for more than twentyfive years. Neuromuscular dentistry has also been shown to be effective in treating patients with various levels of head and neck pain,
